Winners’ Reflections on JCCO  -

Jimmy Shang (Global Bronze Award & National Gold Award):

I'm glad to win the award in the chemistry competition. Thank teacher Amelia for her instruction and cultivation, thank the school for providing us with this opportunity. I will still study hard in the future and try to win more awards. Thank you!

Chase Yin (National Silver Award):

A special thanks to teacher Amelia who accompanied us during our preparation. Some of the concepts in chemistry need the help of a teacher to understand them well, and they are often important in solving problems. I was very lucky that my teacher was able to give us the time to do this.

Ethan Sui (National Silver Award):

I am overwhelmed with gratitude to have been selected to receive this certification. Thanks a lot to my chemistry teacher Ms. Amelia for teaching us and giving us practice papers. I got new experience and I'm willing that I can get a higher score next time, so I'll keep studying, and work hard.

Yandy Li (Global Merit Award & Regional Honorable):

I am honored to win this award in the Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad. This competition is a challenge for me and at the same time an experience to better discover the deficiencies of the present. Steel needs to be tempered, and only hard work will bring rewards.

Pennie Pan (Regional Honorable Award):

Hello, I’m Pennie. This achievement from JCCO rather brought me sense of regret than satisfaction for the results didn’t actually reach my expectations. The questions in the contest were all of familiar knowledge, but somehow I made some unnecessary mistakes. For the remaining opportunities to participate in academic contests, I will prepare carefully and do my best in other upcoming competitions!

Comments from Tutor Amelia Shen

The chemistry competitions aim to provide students an opportunity to learn independently and develop their interests. At the same time, it also helps to cultivate students' self-control and learning perseverance. Competition contents is a sublimation and supplement to textbook contents, and is the natural growth point of the textbook. In combination with the competition outline, we will explain some high-level knowledge closely related to the textbook content when tutoring. It can help students to have a better understanding on chemical principles, help to widen students’ perspective of thinking, and make knowledge more vivid. You will find that students' thinking is very jumpy, and they can often put forward some very targeted and in-depth questions. Therefore, chemistry competitions can well train students' ability of thinking and knowledge application, thus improving students' comprehensive competitiveness.

The Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (JCCO) is one of the most well-known competitions for middle students hosted by Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC). The Junior Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (JCCO) is an annual event that aims to promote interest in chemistry amongst students grade 8-11. Participation in the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad is a tremendous experience and it is also a unique opportunity to travel and meet fellow students from around the world who have similar interests.

The award is the result, but the growth is the process. NBHIS always encourages students to actively explore and challenge themselves, and thus constantly improve their comprehensive abilities in practice. In the future, we expect more students to show their talents in various academic fields!
