经济学,对于小学生来说,是深奥而遥远的。VKBS一年级的小朋友们在CCE课程中已经开始接触基础的金融和经济学知识。
Although economics is far beyond the understanding of primary students, the Grade One boys and girls in VKBS have already accessed the basics of finance and economics in CCE curriculum.
“需求Needs”和“需要Wants”一样吗?差异是什么?G1外方教师们在1-2年级组长Ms.Cindy Gay的引领下,围绕这个主题与学生展开了不断深入的探讨,孩子们开始逐步了解两者之间的差异,以及如何对资金进行简单的预算。课堂上孩子们还和老师一起讨论了赚钱的方法,可以把钱花在什么上,以及储蓄意味着什么。
Are “Needs” and “Wants” the same? What’s the difference between those two words? Ms. Gay, the group leader of G1 and G2, guided G1 foreign teachers to have in-depth discussions with students about this theme. The students started to understand the differences between the two words little by little, and how to simply budget funds. In class, the children and the teacher had a brainstorm about how to make money, what they can spend on, and what saving means.
仅仅在课堂上的讨论对于一年级的学生远远不够。在现实生活中,我们想买的东西可能有很多,但手中的钱却没有那么多。所以我们必须放弃一些东西,作出选择。提升做出理性选择的本领则需要不断学习,不断实践。孩子们每天记录和盘点他们通过劳动或其他方式赚取的收入及实际的花销,计算出每天至每周的结余,去检验预算是否能达成及预算是否合理,并不断调整自己的预算和选择。
As for G1 students, the class discussion is nowhere near enough. In reality, we may desire to buy lots of things without much money in hand, so we have to make choices and give up something. Improving the capability for making rational decisions requires persistent study and practices. The children record and list the actual spends and earnings from labor or other ways every day. Then they calculate the daily and weekly balance to check whether the budget is achieved and reasonable, continuously adjusting their budgets and choices.
数学学科扮演了另一个重要的角色:孩子们需要每天运用本学期数学课上学到的加法和减法去计算出每天收入和花销的差,即每天的结余,一周一清算。孩子们进行总结,反思自己每周初的预算和实际的出入,后续如何改进,并再实践。
The math subject plays another important role. Children need to calculate the difference between daily earnings and spends using the addition and subtraction learned in math class of this semester, namely the balance of each day liquidated every week. Children summarize and reflect on the discrepancies between the budget from the start of each week and actual results, as well as the future improvements, then put them into practice.
G1数学组团队在夏玉明老师的带领下,从手把手教会孩子们理解表格并做记录和计算,到放手让孩子们自主完成记录的清算,一路陪伴孩子,从扶到放。
Under the leadership of teacher Xia Yuming, the G1 Mathematics Group, implementing the teaching strategy of “from assistance to independence” always by their side, taught students to understand charts and make records together with calculations from the start, and then encouraged them to square up the records by themselves.
孩子们自主协调如何分配手里的钱,用多少去买东西?怎么买?又用多少去存起来?经济学的选择,和其他很多学科实际上相互关联。储蓄,就要考查你是不是能忍住现在的欲望,去做将来的事,这和心理学同样有关联。我校CCE课程,给与了小朋友的是在传统学习之外更广阔的知识海洋。
Children need to independently allocate their money, the spending amount, the way to spend, the left money for saving. In fact, the choices in economics have something to do with other subjects. Saving is to test whether you can contain your current desire and save for the future, which is associated with psychology. The CCE curriculum of our school presents children with more extensive knowledge besides traditional studying.
最终,孩子们会学会如何分配和使用自己的东西。比如:每天放学后的时间有限,除了必须的吃饭、洗漱、睡觉外,只剩下2-3个小时,是去锻炼身体、看书,还是出去玩?怎么样的选择能够得到最多的收获,这也蕴含着经济学的思维。这种思维我们认为不论处于什么阶段的学生都需要。
Eventually, students will learn how to assign and use their own stuff. For example, the time after school is limited, especially only 2 to 3 hours left after essential daily activities including eating, washing, and sleeping. Exercising? Reading? Going out to play? To find out what kind of choice can benefit you the most requires the economics thinking, which is needed for all students.
我们致力于让孩子们用他们接受的方式学习,不仅仅是了让他们学会,更重要的是让他们始终带着兴趣,在不知不觉中学习,并在生活中,在实践中去运用所学到的知识和本领,从而让“学来的”内化升华成“自己的”。“随风潜入夜,润物细无声”讲的就是这个道理,这正是我们VKBS人执着的追求。
We are committed to making children learn in an acceptable way. We not only help them learn, more importantly, but also help them learn with interest unconsciously, and let them use the learned knowledge and skills in real-life practice, help children make “learned” knowledge their “own”. That is the meaning of “with wind it steals in night, mute, it moistens each thing” and the persistent pursuit of VKBSers.
