Make Lanterns together, enjoy the Chinese Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival is also called the Shangyuan Festival. The 15th day of the first lunar month is the first full moon night of the year, so it is called the Yuanxiao Festival. According to Chinese folk tradition, on the night of the Lantern Festival, people light up thousands of colorful lanterns to celebrate. People go out together to enjoy the full moon, light the flame, guess riddles, and eat yuanxiao.
During the 30-minute break last week the Chinese teachers introduced the origin, customs, and significance of the Lantern Festival. Many of the customs of the Lantern Festival are part of Chinese national cultural heritage. The teachers hope that through the explanation of the relevant content, students can understand the significance of the Lantern Festival and appreciate the relevance to cultural heritage.
Then, with the help and guidance of the teachers, the children took cardboard and scissors to fold, cut and paste, help and learn from each other, and began the lantern making process. After half an hour's effort, beautiful lanterns were presented to everyone. The children raised their lanterns to show their achievements with happy smiles on their faces.
Through the Lantern Festival activities, teachers let children feel the atmosphere of traditional festivals. The students were guided to perceive, understand, and love folk activities, as well as deepen the understanding of traditional Chinese festivals.
