SUIS Qingpu vs SUIS Peiming
On the 31st of March, SUIS Qingpu invited SUIS Peiming to take part in the first annual SUIS Qingpu-Peiming debate.
The theatre was full of excited of Grade 6 students, watching eagerly as the two schools took to the stage. Both teams looked so professional in their dress uniforms.
At the start of the debate, Ms Lana, Dr Adam, Mr Leo and Mr Kevin from Peiming were introduced as the judges.
The topic of the first debate was “If a person is cloned, should they have the same rights as a real person?” while the second topic was “Is it okay for parents to access the personal social media of their children without their permission?”
SUIS Qingpu VS SUIS Peiming
One-by-one the students spoke and made their arguments. The other debaters listened carefully and prepared to launch their counter arguments.
Once the debate was over the judges sat together and conferred. Silence filled the theater as everyone waited to hear which school had won.
Finally, the winners, SUIS Peiming, were announced. We extend our most sincere congratulations to SUIS Peiming and wish better luck next time to SUIS Qingpu.
We know that this event will get bigger and bigger as the years pass by.
Public speaking takes courage, even when it is in your native language. To speak in one’s second language in front of a large audience, though, takes more than just bravery. “Well done!” to all the students who went on stage and took part in the debate. We hope to see more students take part in these kinds of events as the school year progresses.
